Physician, heal thyself...get out of your past and get into your present

Several years ago I found myself employed as a mental health counselor. Invariably, upon meeting a client for the first time, he or she would tell me their story. They would tell me a story of all that had taken in their lives leading them up to now. In was as though each client came to me with their own personal box of stuff that in their minds defined who they were. The ritual seldom changed. Each one would rummage about in their mental "box" pulling out item after item in an attempt to show themselves to me. It was my practice to allow them to go through this procedure as I listened attentively. When I felt somewhat satisfied that they had reviewed the most important stuff from their individual boxes, I would interject my plan for taping up the box of stuff and putting it in the closet or basement or in some cases, have us prepare for a yard sale. "Well", I would say, "you have before you a great opportunity. This opportunity is there for all of us but we f

Waterfront Ghia - TaoSpring

I enjoy a New England summer morning. I enjoy New England period! But this year's rain and the almost endless progression of cloudy days can try the most patient among us. I am patiently waiting for summer to burst through mother nature's womb and shower us with the joy of a new day after a new day but I can't help wonder, is the weather in New England always like this? You kind of forget last year.  And it's a New England tradition to grumble about the weather. Like the old saying goes, "If you don't like the weather, just wait a minute. It will change". I can't help but lust after a warm sunny morning. Greeting the day with the energy of excitement. Stretching, tending the chickens. Checking on the garden. Enjoying the day. Work when work is due. All else is a slide into the joy of TaoSpring. The ritual of taking off the car cover and warming up the Ghia and making  spot checks like I'm about to soar above 10,000 feet. TaoSpring; a place of rest and renewal. I am older now. My gardens are smaller, my yield is great, my bounty is shared. The chickens are by far, the most pretty group of girls that I have ever seen together in one room. In a few short weeks they have progressed from egg to roost. Can't wait for the eggs!

Sunday Morning coming down

Image
I sit at the kitchen table savoring a cup of coffee trying to ignore a festering ache of anger, resting like a bird on a wire, on a beautiful Sunday morning. And I think, A man is born gentle and weak. At his death he is hard and stiff. Green plants are tender and filled with sap. At their death they are withered and dry. Therefore the stiff and unbending is the disciple of death. The gentle and yielding is the disciple of life.   I am in the process of a divorce from a stiff necked non nurturing woman that I have given my all to for over thirty years. Much of the content of This Being Human... has been the diary of a drowning man. It is beyond hard living with a no resolution, everything's a pissing contest, her way or the highway kind of woman. And after all her bullshit, her arrests for domestic assault, her destroying my property, her emptying the house of all property, I only wish her well and peace of mind. Kind of like wishing that a bear could turn into a domestic d

Chickens - only an egg’s way for making another egg.

It has been fun watching the chickens grow out from what was once a crack in an egg into the young gals that they have become. Funnier still, I think that we might have a rooster in the mix. They love dandelion greens and relish a treat of worms and roll like dogs in the dirt. In the morning they flee the coop like children running to recess. They are learning to roost but still sleep at night huddled together behind the feed cans. Occasionally I can hear a peep develop into a cluck. The garden is being planted; small raised beds. Pole beans, broccoli, tomatoes and peppers. Several other vegetables will follow. Welcome to TaoSpring.
